Pass me my shades: the future looks bright.

Postby Dizzy » Mon Mar 24, 2008 7:42 pm

This is the first time in a while that I have felt good about my team's prospects from the get-go: I picked up some primo, under-the-radar talent for asking price (or close to it), and we've got silver stars in the Herald like all get out.

By the way... we've just had another one of THOSE games. You know, when you've beaten the friggin' tar out of all but two of their orcs, and everyone just stands around. And then there's a neverending faceoff for no reason while the ball sits on the ground nearby. And then, their goalie gets the ball, and he manages to pass it to himself all the way over to your goal.

That really capsizes my sloop, but at least I wasn't losing when that started. We're 4-1-0 (my one loss was to Bubbauk, that dirty so-and-so), having pulverized the Band of Brothorcs into unrecognizable paste in the aforementioned game.

I nod approvingly and enjoy thoroughly that the 'Rippaz have finally discovered that the steel spikes, which I bought looong ago for everyone, have a purpose that is greater than aerating the topsoil while our opponents run roughshod over our steaming entrails. (Nevertheless, such ruthlessly violent behaviour has some glaring programming consequences... but I've brought this up a couple of times before and I'm just beating a dead horse. I'm sure this issue keeps Ice up at night as it is. )

The next game is going to be a good one: the 'Rippaz and the Everyorcs, both 4-1-0.

By the way, Ice, how many of these teams are computer-controlled? I'm guessing 4.

Four. I don't like going more than four. I try to avoid it if at all possible.

Basking in the glorious sunrise of a new age.

Postby Dizzy » Mon Apr 07, 2008 7:34 pm

Excuse me while I kneel, arms outstretched, face to the heavens, in a moment that has never before graced this team and that may never occur again...

Overlord's Team.........................IQ Win-Loss-Tie Points For - Against
Dizzy's Spleenrippaz...................47.......10-2-0.............291 - 131
Bubbauk's Misfits........................42........9-3-0..............238 - 149
Dan's Everyorcs..........................42........9-3-0..............278 - 202
Michael's Band of Brothorcs.........33........7-5-0..............215 - 165
Mysterious's Evolution.................30........6-5-1..............269 - 200
Richie's Elf Owners......................11........2-9-1.............134 - 221
Kyle's Krunch...............................9.........2-10-0............131 - 349
Reg's Krushers.............................9........2-10-0.............224 - 363

After a 38 - 5 (oddly bloodless) victory over the Misfits, the Spleenrippaz have achieved three firsts since their inception simultaneously:
1. Sole team in First Place during the regular season;
2. Most Points For;
3. Fewest Points Against.

Another first for us: we were able to delay the game for a good punch-up session after throwing the ball out of bounds early in the third period.

(If that weren't good enough, the last of the little, scattered snow piles finally melted in Toronto. We got rocked this winter a few times, and there's a definite aura of "Aaaahhh" in the city.)

Perhaps today IS a good day to die.
Spleenrippaz -- 3rd, 6th, 1st, 1st, 1st, 3rd, 2nd

Toronto! Wait a minute...those aren't Orcs, Dizzy, they are Great North American Yeti's you've shaved and painted green! Hmmm...is that legal? We'll leave it up to the commissioner.

Overlord's Team.........................IQ.....Win-Loss-Tie.....Points For - Against
Dizzy's Spleenrippaz..................80.....17-4-0...............472 - 227
Bubbauk's Misfits.......................66.....14-7-0...............435 - 316
Mysterious's Evolution...............64.....13-7-1...............570 - 333
Dan's Everyorcs.........................61.....13-8-0...............464 - 348
Michael's Band of Brothorcs.....52.....11-10-0.............331 - 290
Richie's Elf Owners....................35.....7-13-1...............327 - 383
Kyle's Krunch..............................19.....4-17-0...............216 - 552
Reg's Krushers...........................19.....4-17-0..............330 - 696

Well, everyone (who's important) on the 'Rippaz is well rested and ready to go for the playoffs, seeing as how I set the benchwarmers loose to get pounded to hell for the final three games. Miraculously, those games were actually pretty close, and we won the last regular season game! haHA! (I also learned which bench orcs are worth carrying into the next season.)

From the Herald, Bubbauk seems to have had the same end-of-season strategy. I hope to meet him for an exciting finals after we dispatch these bothersome computer-controlled teams in the first round.

A consistently average score from week to week, plus three whopping victories in particular with scores along the lines of "50 - not very much", "56 - bleah", and "88 - dirt" over low-ranked teams.
