Div 4 League Finishing Xmas Eve

In your second season, you are in Division IV. Third season teams play in Division III. Fourth season teams play in Division II. Teams that have already played four or more seasons are in Division I. This helps keep the playing field level as your team gains experience.

There is definitely the possibility that he's tougher than he looks. :)

Like black ice: you can't see it, but you feel it's there.

Qaal has Toughness 4 but starts out with 60 HP, so he is certainly from the Toughness Family... but that benefit should mean only that a greater number of Strength-X hits are required to K. him O. than for a low-Toughness orc. Does your cryptic post, Ice, which I have now scrawled into the ceiling above my bed with a screwdriver, suggest that an orc with high Toughness will have both plentiful Health AND an innate ability to resist damage altogether? Eh?

For example, let's pretend that I am a Defender who inflicts a Strength-20 hit on each of two orcs with no armour. My first victim has Toughness 1 and so collapses in a ruined heap, gibbering something about Triffids. My second victim has Toughness 4, which modifies the damage received, and so loses fewer than 20 Health points... let's say 20/4 = 5.

If every single one of those 33 hits on Qaal (who has effectively Toughness 5), after chain-armour modifiers are included, ended up being Strength-4-or-less, then he would take (4-or-less)/5 = 0 (rounding down). Or something like that there.

OR... is there something else beneath the hidden Family layer in an orc's profile? Are there secret, hidden abilities like Judo, whereupon an orc who is hit has a 40% chance of reflecting that hit back at his attacker? What sort of sneaky sneaky hoohah are you trying to pull, here? I smell conspiracy! .. and.. something that's similar to burnt toast.

If you keep in mind that I'm ultimately lazy when it comes to writing code, you'll realize that occam's razor applies. In this case, those from the toughness family walk onto the field with 10 more hit points than they otherwise would have, and if more than those 10 hit points are not taken during the game, they walk out unscathed, looking, well, tougher.

It's the final countdown.

Postby Dizzy » Mon Dec 08, 2008 10:45 am

Playoff time!

Meathooks [17-4] vs. Latecomers [12-9]
Rebellion [15-6] vs. Smashinthrashers [13-8]

Let's look at past games between these four teams...

Rebellion defeat 'Hooks 25-5
Smash' defeat Latecomers 12-5
'Hooks defeat Latecomers 13-8
Latecomers defeat Rebellion 18-14
Rebellion defeat Smash' 17-13
'Hooks defeat Smash' 17-16
'Hooks defeat Rebellion 19-3 and 18-8
Smash' defeat 'Hooks 14-6 and 14-8
Smash' defeat Latecomers 15-7 and 16-12
Rebellion defeat Smash' 33-9, then lose 26-11
'Hooks defeat Latecomers 19-16, then lose 23-12
Rebellion defeat Latecomers 27-9 and 29-15

All tolled, 'Hooks have 5 victories, Rebellion have 5, Latecomers have 2, and Smash' have 6 victories. Pretty tight playoff picture, methinks.

Good luck, Dushlan! I hope to meet you in bloody battle in the finals.

Count 'em! That's 19 exclamation marks of 'interesting'.

In the 2nd 'Hooks/Latecomers game of the playoffs, the two scores were never more than 5 pts apart. It was like watching a race between two inner-tubers down a steep, snowy hill while tied together at the ankles with a bungee cord. The 'Hooks tied it up with 8:24 to go in the third period at 22 each, and there stayed the score until we nailed a 3-pointer with 1:29 to go. Then, like birdstrike in my jet engine, the Latecomers tied it again with 21 s left, and the clock ran out as injured orcs on both teams dragged themselves to the sidelines.

The dance continues... TONIGHT!

Yeah! Ha-haa, yeah. It's on! Ha-HA!

MEATHOOKS v REBELLION

In Game 3, Dushlan thumped the Smashinthrashers thoroughly 25 - 5, and the 'Hooks and Latecomers danced the knife-edge dance until about 7:00 left in the third, when a gritty 7 - 7 suddenly became 10, 11, 14, 17, and finally 20 - 7.

So, here's how it stands...

Dizzy's Meathooks (19-4-1), 496 PF, 297 PA (#2 Offense, #1 Defense though not by much)
Drunk's Rebellion (17-7-0), 580 PF, 306 PA (#1 Offense by a wide margin, #2 Defense)

Regular season games:
Rebellion defeat 'Hooks 25 - 5
'Hooks defeat Rebellion 19 - 3 and 18 - 8

Dig it.

The third vertex of the bloody triangle.

Postby Dizzy » Mon Dec 22, 2008 7:29 am

The intensity and mayhem of this exciting Div IV battle comes to a brutal end tonight in Game 3 of a mighty finals series. In the first game, the 'Hooks were obviously uncomfortable with the fast pace of the Rebellion offense and struggled to keep up in one of the highest-scoring games of the season. Shootouts are not what we do best, apparently. The second game, however, was more our style: long stretches between scores, slow, grinding drives down the field, face-crunching tackles, and solid goaltending.

With 6 Rebellion orcs in the blue goo so far, including Huxteorb, a mainstay of their offensive group, the Away team has a rough road to the championship through the stadium of the refreshed and healthy Meathooks team...

...but time will tell. At the time of this post, the first faceoff is twelve hours away. Here's to a good game tonight, Dushlan. <clink>

'Hook, line, and sinker.

Postby Dizzy » Tue Dec 23, 2008 11:10 am

Meathooks 32, Rebellion 11

The 'Hooks went up 16-0 by the end of the first period and never looked back, inflicting another 5 knockouts along the way. To casual observers, this steamrolling of a game may have been a bit anticlimactic after seeing these two powerhouses, who each won a nailbiter Playoff Series, slug it out in Games 1 and 2. To quote The Great Leslie in the movie The Great Race, "...There is little advantage to winning if one wins too easily."

To these casual observers, I say 'bah, humbug'. Or, to quote General Kuhster's answer to The Great Leslie, "...In my profession, to win is imperative; to win easily is a blessing." In other words, I feel thoroughly relieved instead of smugly satisfied. With a flick of Fate's wrist, the outcome of this clash could easily have been quite different, given the scores of our regular season games.

So! To Dushlan, I tip my cap. If you'd like to continue the rivalry, I'll be activating the 'Hooks for Div III early in the New Year. Otherwise, well, life goes on. ;)

Diggin' it III-style.

The holidays have ended, I'm fat and happy from great feasts, wine, and snackies, and I've got a brand spankin' new hard drive for cool, silent, speedy Orcsports-goings-on. We're rolled and ready for Div III, and hey, lookylooky: I'm the first one to activate. Jump in the pool, lads and lasses, the water's fine.

Meathooks are go! Aw, yeah.
