Novice Division is for new teams.

It doesn't grow on trees...

So we have a league ending August 5th with me (Eels), Jinsaku (Orc Wannabes), Marc (Clan of the Black Arrow), and Eric (Killerz). One game to go in the regular season, we'z kickin' ass and takin' names, blah blah blah. Now: I've been around a few years, but I don't think that I've ever seen anyone on the money standings go from "20000 - 24999 GOLD" to "100000+ GOLD" in a matter of maybe two weeks, but Jinsaku seems to have done just that. Even stranger is that, under the looting stats, we all seem to have looted approximately the same amount (1 golden bar thing each).

I am either very suspicious or in awe of Jinsaku's money management skills. Clearly, some offshore investments are generating big returns.

The long staredown begins...

Postby Dizzy » Tue Jul 19, 2011 8:39 pm

PLAYOFF TIME! Starting Saturday.

Dizzy's Eels (1) vs. Marc's Clan of the Black Arrow (4) -- regular season, Dizzy has 2 wins to Marc's 1.
Jinsaku's Orc Wannabes (2) vs. Tremendou's Tumors (3) -- regular season, Tremendou has 2 wins to Jinsaku's 1, but Jinsaku has the greater number of points scored.

Here is the compiled point totals between the four teams during the regular season:

_____________Eels___CotBA___O.W.___Tumors___Ttl Pts For
Eels..............X.........29........49.........48.........126
CotBA...........22.........X.........36.........49.........107
O.W.............40........70.........X..........48........158
Tumors.........26........30.........40..........X.........96
Ttl Pts Agn.....88.......129......125.......145........ :D

INTERESTING NOTE: In any given week, these four teams either played each other in pairs or all played against the bottom four teams. Is that significant, you ask? Silence, you!

I have teh monies!

Too bad the team sucks. I'm so bad at buying orcs from the homelands.

For clarification, I'm actually not controlling that team anymore. I kinda suck at this game, so IceMage was kind enough to swap that team to autopilot (after 2 or 3 games) so I can watch the autopilot decisions, since the autopilots are obviously better than I am.

I think there must be a bug.. the team has only looted 30K in gold, but everyone has full chain (goalies in plate), the loan's paid off, and there's 129K in the bank. Granted, the team hasn't done any rollover, but I also haven't seen a lot of merchant/item looting, so I'm not sure how they have so much.

Least they aren't spending it, so it's not entirely unfair.

I show:
 41k gold looted (the 30k number is a guess at net)
 Stuff x 79 (average value of stuff is 456 gold) = 36k but could vary based on luck
 Team record of 13-7-1 brings in 55.5k
 25k Loan

That's 157.5k in. Orcs and armor cost about 116k. No clue what healing would have cost. There was some buying/selling of orcs, but that should even out.

I'd expect to see them with about 42k, not 129k.

Here's what I'm going to do. I'll create a new autopilot novice team under my login and watch them through the season to see if anything weird happens that makes them suddenly wealthy. I also have no problem culling this team's treasury back significantly.

Yeah, good point: the loan is paid off. I'd expect to see them closer to 17k and even that doesn't take into account any healing during the season.

Yeah, there must be some sort of bug. I'd check in on them every few days and it was amazing to see the treasury grow, particularly since the first thing the team did when you toggled them to autopilot was to buy all chain/plate for everyone.

Maybe some sort of bug for when you toggled it to auto from manual control?

Further evidence.. in the past 2 days, the team has looted 1100 gold, had no games, hasn't bought/sold any players, and has gone up 7K gold to 136300.

Time to stick it to the man!

The Finals are set!

Dizzy's Eels (1) vs. Jinsaku-bot's Orc Wannabes (2)

I feel like Robin Hood getting ready to take down Prince John: Jinsaku-bot's Ponzi-scheme shenanigans have swelled his bank account to over 150000 gold.

Oh, wait, nonono... I feel like Clarence Boddicker trying to take down Robocop, but in more of a good-guy motif. With all of that dirty money, the fat cat has scored chain and plate armour for everyone, and now I'm the last line of defense. Fortunately for Clarence and his gang, the VP of OCP was sympathetic to their cause and supplied them with anti-Robocop weaponry. Unfortunately, no "state-of-the-art bang-bang" for Dizzy.

So maybe I feel more like... erm.. Frogger. I just gotsta make it to the other side without being crushinated, and I have to do it by being clever and sneaky. Damn.

Here's hoping that they don't decide to load up on steel spikes, too!

Clap if you love miracles!

Is it Christmas?

Postby Dizzy » Fri Aug 19, 2011 9:17 pm

Well, I did say to clap if you love miracles!

My special miracle came in the form of a buggy assistant who, according to the Game Text, assigned a cluster of orc-shaped marshmallows to Jinsaku-bot's front line and everyone of any value whatsoever to Centre 2. I, having never trusted the assistant to do such an important task, was alone in my League with properly assigned orcs at gametime for both Finals games. We went through them like a kindergarten class goes through chocolate bunnies at Easter.

All the teams seem fine now, so Ice's fix to the assistant came juuuust a little too late to save the Orc Wannabes' hopes of victory. Just like the Martians in War of the Worlds, they seemed to be the almighty finger of god ready to poke me in the eye, impervious to weaponry thanks to their advanced armour. And it wasn't my steel spikes or brass knuckleses that won the day, it wasn't any grand strategy of mine that laid them low: they simply couldn't handle the bugs in the system.

And rightly so! Those cheatin' dingbats! Live and die by the buggy sword, what-ho! Justice! I mean seriously, Greece and Italy are financially pooched, and here are the Orc Wannabes all like "No, don't bother with the payment plan, I'll just buy this Koenigsegg with my pocket change" and "Let's see how many $1000 bills it takes to choke a kitten".

So there. The Eels' first season has come to a strange and pseudoglorious ending. Anyone who says I didn't earn it can come talk to me privately.

Dig it.
