About to end my very 1st season

Postby DonDon » Wed Apr 01, 2009 8:24 am

Team went 5-14. Decided to rollover my starting 8 players and the best looter. Does this seem like a viable strategy for going into a 2nd season?
What should I look for when rolling over players?

From novice, what I personally do is drop any orcs that didn't make 3rd season at a position. Once you hit Div IV, they're not likely to get any time on the field.

Otherwise, I've found that it's good to watch orc performance. I make use of the Standings -> Team Standings area to find my best players and drop those that are detrimental to the team, don't get much play time, etc. I find this works better for Div II and up, though.

Hmm.. keeping only 9 players seems risky, since there is no guarantee that the next Homelands will have a variety of good orcs to fill all positions. Furthermore, you'd better have a fair amount of money saved up to buy another 26 that are better than the orcs that you've dropped. I don't really have a "system" per se for dropping some guys while keeping others: it's more of a fluid, mooshy, squishy.. thing.

I tend to keep most of my orcs except (a) the ones whom I saw were terrible in the replays, particularly in the playoffs; (b) the ones whose rollover and sale values are ridiculously high; and (c) the orcs who have no potential to get better, either through training or experience. Often, the number that gets dropped is less than 10... just enough to gather some good or better-than-average replacements.

Personally i would look at how well your team performed in season one and how stocked the homelands were. No point in keeping many orcs if your team came in last and the homelands was horrible. As an average I generally keep at least 15-25 orcs between novice and Div IV depending on how well the season went and how many i thought were worth while keeping. Most of them would make up orcs that actually played but tend to also keep about 5 looters just to increase the cash load a bit in start of next season. More looting in pre-season = more spending money on new talent

Took a 2nd look at Rollover. Up to 10 guys to field plus 5 looters/backup and have 7700 gold right now. One game to go. Got 25 in leather & 1 set of chain. Random mix of weapons. Biggest problem with this team starting out over half the players cost 200. 1st team tons of bad choices.

Stupid question here (Im too lazy to actually check for it...guess my orcs are rubbing off on me)--do you keep your armor, weapons, etc when you rollover your team after a season, or do you sell it for loot to carry over into the next season???

You keep your armor and weapons. Well, *I* keep *my* armor and weapons. You can do what you like!

Apart from novice season, I tend to sell anything less than leather armor and any weapon less than steel.

I tend to keep 20-25 from the novice league unless I did really well, then I keep more. The higher you go though, the more I tend to keep. i just cant find good orcs in div II and div I that have the experience and the price that I usually have. novice leagues are usually fodder anyway, div IV should be money building time, and div III is where you need to win big time cause your orcs will cost a fortune after that. haha
