Div III League (ends 05 Apr)

In your second season, you are in Division IV. Third season teams play in Division III. Fourth season teams play in Division II. Teams that have already played four or more seasons are in Division I. This helps keep the playing field level as your team gains experience.

Div III League (ends 05 Apr)

Overlord's Team...............................IQ...W-L-T...PF - PA
arna's tools.........................................4 1-0-0 18 - 14
Dizzy's Meathooks..............................4 1-0-0 18 - 12
Otto's Rally X.......................................4 1-0-0 30 - 5
Kewbs's Newbs.................................2 0-0-1 19 - 19
Pop's Snowfighters...........................2 0-0-1 19 - 19
Brett's Not in the Running (1MGC)...0 0-1-0 5 - 30
Jason's Bourne Winners...................0 0-1-0 14 - 18
Mike's Banko Orco (1MGC)...............0 0-1-0 12 - 18

Dizzy ( :) ), Ice, BattleAxeSubtle, and Pop ( :?: ) are da real deal. The rest are sneaksy computers. At first glance (after a few days of bidding), the Banko Orco look like they'd like a run at the title, while the NitR may just be using this League as a front for a widespread looting operation. As for me, well, let's just say that all my new orcs have Pound 5 - 7 and leave it there.

Kewbs's Newbs vs. Dizzy's Meathooks

We lost. Sure, we had managed to claw our way back to a score of 11-9 after being down by 7, but when push came to shove, we couldn't shove back.

Here's the post-mortem on the last minute:

1:01: Zephbubfem shoots and Toiarghaprif makes the save!
(The Newbs final shot at goal came one second before they would have started celebrating, and we saved it. That gave us one more shot to score a 3-pointer.)0:57: Toiarghaprif passes to Audangow.
0:53: Audangow passes to Chexvaskham.
0:51: They play catch....
0:47: Audangow passes to Bemsjant.
0:43: They play catch....
(Stop playing catch and get down the bloody field, already!)
0:37: Bemsjant passes to Khudsnenz.
0:34: Khudsnenz shoots and Nahkzennkwoms makes the save!
(Dammit!!)
0:32: Nahkzennkwoms passes to Swivutvtopz.
(The benchwarmers for the Newbs start the celebration.)
0:28: Swivutvtopz passes to Muqeepid.
0:24: Muqeepid passes to Vepenxag.
0:23: They play catch....
0:19: Muqeepid passes to Swivutvtopz.
0:15: Swivutvtopz passes to Gampefith.
0:14: Gampefith passes to Vepenxag.
0:13: They play catch....
0:11: Vepenxag passes to Gampefith who drops the ball!
0:08: Bemsjant shoots...Bemsjant scores! A 3-point goal!

Get. The Hell. Out.

Is this destiny calling? Is this a sign? No! It's Orcsports, jimmy-jammers! It's good times! All-or-nothing times! Last-chance comeback times! It's times like these that warm your soul on those cold nights when you can't sleep, and that shadow on the wall looks like it's moving, and there's a spider descending slowly from the ceiling towards your eyeball. I know that I always think of last-chance comebacks when that happens.

Dig it.

Well, we're now on...
Overlord's Team IQ Win-Loss-Tie Points For - Against
    Dizzy's Meathooks 33 7-0-0 286 - 68
    Mike's Banko Orco (1MGC) 23 5-2-0 178 - 104
    Kewbs's Newbs 21 4-2-1 157 - 98
    Pop's Snowfighters 16 3-3-1 155 - 152
    Jason's Bourne Winners 14 3-4-0 152 - 128
    Otto's Rally X 14 3-4-0 132 - 141
    arna's tools 9 2-5-0 107 - 205
    Brett's Not in the Running (1MGC) 0 0-7-0 47 - 318

with my lot having lost to The Meathooks and The Winners. Not sure that the new and overpaid orcs are really pulling their weight - though my encounters with Dizzy's team keep the healers in beer money. Ouch.

Get. The Hell. Out... Again.

Well, Mike, what can I say? I've seen my share of comebacks before, but.. damn. As I watched the final two minutes play out, I could only think "That is a real kick in the balls. If I were Mike, I'd probably barf right about now."

For those of you at home, let me describe briefly the endgame. The Banco Orko was winning 24 - 13 with 2:00 to go (and they were on a mild scoring rampage, might I add). Guess who won the match. Go on, take a wild stab at it! The first four 3-pointers (1:40 to go, 1:20, 1:00, and 0:44 respectively) took the 'Hooks into the lead, and the fifth (0:28 to go) was a statement along the lines of "We could have done this at any time, you know."

Most times, when I win in the last few minutes after playing catch up for the whole game, I do a happy dance. This time, man, just... stared in disbelief, shaking my head, knowing that if the situation had been reversed, I'd probably have to go down to the basement and find some house centipedes and put them in my vise.

Kick in the balls. Fhoo.

I think my goalkeepers were just running and hiding in the last couple of minutes. I was on keeper number 5 by the end of the game... One of the first team is still trying to remove the iron spike embedded in his plate breast plate.

Overlord's Team..........................IQ W-L-T PF - PA
Dizzy's Meathooks........................76 16-1-0 538 - 224
Kewbs's Newbs............................66 13-2-2 417 - 210

Jason's Bourne Winners................28 6-11-0 315 - 352
arna's tools...................................23 5-12-0 285 - 444
Brett's Not in the Running (1MGC)..4 1-16-0 103 - 729

..aaaaand there goes the chance for my first ever undefeated season. What makes it worse is that I didn't lose to anyone good, like the Banko or the Newbs. These are teams that have been steadfast and tough opponents. I lost to the friggn' Tools, and they just ran circles around us.

Very humbling.

Everyone needs some humblin' from time to time. Every college football hero needs that little weird guy with dyspepsia and smelling like playdoh to punch him in the mush when he goes too far. Yeah, sporty football star, maybe you shouldn't have proclaimed loudly that little-weird-guy always has something in his teeth or trips on his Boyz II Men trenchcoat while he runs screaming from little-weird-girl who thinks he's cute in a weird, too-much-gel kind of way. Little-weird-guy has a mean right uppercut.

But boy, oh, boy, I bet football hero has an even meaner left jab, and big football friends, and I wouldn't want to be little-weird-guy right now for all the tea in Uruguay. You hear me, Arna, you sneaksy computer you? I WILL DESTROY YOU IF WE EVER MEET AGAIN! DESTROY YOU WITH MY TWO FISTS OF ANGRY!

Walk hard.

Postby Dizzy » Fri Mar 13, 2009 10:12 am

Oh, they limped home. I seem to remember that, at one point, we were losing 24 - 2 or something close to it. I actually drooled a bit as I watched the madness unfold, agog and mystified. Either the Tools had removed the proverbial pickle from the nether regions of their season, or .. or...

.. the other possibility is too horrible to contemplate.

Aplenty.

Postby Dizzy » Mon Mar 16, 2009 11:23 am

Agog, with my mind awash and heart aflutter. We had run afoul of a team ablaze, and I watched from afar, alone and aghast, as it all went awry. They ran amok on my Goalies, while my Defenders were sent awhirl amidst the crowd's gasps (they were taken aback). It was as if we were asleep and adrift, but just for awhile. We awoke and surged ahead anew, but against such a lead, we couldn't turn it around.

"Something's amiss", said I aloud to my team, who were aquiver. "We've gone astray." So, in the next game, we rent the Snowfighters asunder and now it's all Meathooks a-gogo.

Aglow,
Dizzy.
